The Centre of Expertise in Advanced Materials and Sustainability (CEAMS) is supporting transformative projects in collaboration with businesses across Greater Manchester, including Deakin Bio. Focused on reducing the carbon footprint of the ceramics industry, DeakinBio has developed a sustainable bio-based alternative to ceramic tiles.

Partnering with DeakinBio, CEAMS partners Henry Royce Institute and the National Physical Laboratory (NPL) have sought to develop and optimise a tile coating that will enhance the barrier properties of the company’s product to ready it for commercial use.

As well as providing access to state-of-the-art R&D facilities and advanced materials expertise, CEAMS has had significant impact on the next steps for DeakinBio.
